Your Windows Live ID is not associated with a user account in this Moodle system
My moodle report this message:
Invalid Moodle User
Your account has been successfully authenticated by Windows Live, but your Windows Live ID, eldonclayton@hotmail.com, is not associated with a user account in this Moodle system.
You can try again with a different Windows Live ID. If you continue to have problems, contact your Moodle system administrator.
I check my user information in the Moodle and I can`t to locate the problem. Thaks for help...

You can check if you have associated your live id with a moodle account.
1. login to moodle with admin account and go to user management page.
2. Select/create a moodle user you want to link to your live id.
3. make sure you have supply the live id in "MSN ID" field of that user.
4. Set the authentication otpion to "Windows Live ID". If you don't see this option, click on "Shaow Advanced" button. Please note that this is a per-user option.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
We've been using Moodle with the Windows Live plugin for several months now. It's worked great until yesterday morning when noone could log in. Noone with admin priveleges can login because we keep getting this error.
To my knowledge, nothing was done to the server that would cause this (updates etc..).
Any suggestions?

We are having the exact same issue and we did not change anything. We are running the original plug-in from July so I am going to download the September one and see if that fixes it.

Hi - I have a similar problem as the original question, but it does not even show the username that is not associated. It only says ' '. It's as though the username from
Live@Edu being sent back to moodle is not being read.
Everything was working fine before I upgraded moodle to its latest version. I reinstalled the blocks and everything - keys, etc. What am I missing?

Your account has been successfully authenticated by Windows Live, but your Windows Live ID, , is not associated with a user account in this Moodle system.
SAME ERROR...Shows a BLANK ID being passed back from Microsoft.

The error says "You need to enroll in the
Live@edu program before you can access
Live@edu Service Management Portal." Sounds similar...
I don't know about the rest, but for us, our Live accounts are in the process of being "upgraded" from R3 to R4. Could it be an issue?
Another theory. Could it be related to the impersonation account we had to setup for Moodle? Maybe something changed with that account behind the scenes???

We're back up and running!!
According to Jonny Chambers @ Microsoft (
Live@EDU ):
Apparently the consent service had a bug and it was blocking some LiveIDs from logging in. It has now been fixed.

Back up and running here too. Anyone know what the issue was yet?

Back online for me as well :)
Bit worrying though, can't afford to have the authentication going down on a regular basis otherwise I'll have users with pitchforks at my door!
As for the R3 \ R4 upgrade I think it's already been done for a lot of people, easy way to check is whether your Outlook Live etc has a blue or yellow background (blue for R3, yellow for R4). Also Windows 7 remote PowerShell works out the box for R4 as well.
Hello,
Right now I have this problem. I have the R4 of Outlook. I verified everything, but not work.
I think that the problem is the authentication.php file.
Can you help me please?
